How To File RTI ?

India enacted the RTI Act  in 2005, which gives every citizen the right  to seek and receive information from  authorities. Here is a brief overview of the  RTI application process in India:
Identify the PIO: First, you must identify the agency that has the information you seek.You can discover this information on the public authority's website or by contacting the relevant department.

Write the Application: Write an application in plain and simple language requesting the information you want. The application will be received by the  Public Information Officer (PIO) of the relevant department.
Pay the cost: A cost of Rs. 10 is required. while submitting the RTI application. The fee can be paid in cash or by demand draft, postal order, or online payment.

Submit the Application: Submit the RTI application to the concerned PIO either in person, by post, or online through the RTI portal.

Wait for the Response: The PIO has to respond to your application within 30 days from the date of receipt of the application. In case the information requested pertains to the life or liberty of a person, the PIO has to respond within 48 hours.

Appeal: If you do not receive a response within the specified time, or if you are not satisfied with the response received, you can file an appeal with the first appellate authority within 30 days of the expiry of the time limit prescribed for receiving a reply.
Second Appeal: If you do not receive a response from the first appellate authority or if you are not satisfied with the response, you can file a second appeal with the Central Information Commission (CIC) or the State Information Commission (SIC) within 90 days from the date of receipt of the order of the first appellate authority.

RTI First Appeal

The Right to Information (RTI) First Appeal is a process under the Right to Information Act, which allows individuals to seek information from public authorities in India. If an applicant is not satisfied with the response received from the public information officer (PIO) or if they have not received any response within the specified time frame, they can file a first appeal.


RTI Second Appeal

The second appeal is filed with the relevant Information Commission, which is an independent authority established under the RTI Act. The appeal must be submitted within 90 days from the date of receiving the decision or within 90 days from the expiry of the time limit for receiving a response. It should include the details of the first appeal, reasons for dissatisfaction, and any supporting documents or evidence.
